The provincial Office of Education announced that it established a plan to promote proper Korean language use from 2021 to 2025 and hired Korean language experts for the first time among city and provincial offices of education last year.

Through this, they carried out ▲ proofreading and revising public language ▲ developing guidelines for public language improvement ▲ promoting public language education for employees ▲ implementing continuous inspection and improvement plans for public language use.

They proofread over 1,000 official documents, reducing the use of foreign words, difficult Chinese characters, and authoritative expressions.

A Korean Language Proper Use Committee, including external experts, was held twice a year to simplify difficult policy and administrative terms into easy words.

They also published booklets titled “Proper Use of Public Language by Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education” and “Why We Change Japanese-style Terms in Schools.”

In addition to the headquarters and education support offices, Korean Language Officers were additionally designated in affiliated institutions, and activities such as on-site public language workplace education, production and distribution of monthly public language materials, and development and distribution of native Korean language educational materials were conducted.

A provincial Office of Education official said, “Taking this excellent institution designation as an opportunity, we plan to advance as a model institution for proper Korean language use by operating a Our Language Guide Club this year and publishing a booklet on proper writing of Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education announcements.”

The award ceremony for excellent institutions in Korean Language Officer duties will be held on the afternoon of the 20th at the 12th Korean Language Officer and Korean Language Culture Center Joint Training Session hosted and organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Language Culture Center Federation.
