In an era of high inflation where nothing from food expenses to heating costs has not increased, Chosun University has prepared a '1000 Won Breakfast Lunchbox' for its students.
Chosun University announced on the 19th that it will run the 'Hearty Meal Breakfast' program, providing breakfast to students for 1000 won from the 25th of this month until June 19th.
The program was initiated due to concerns over students' irregular meals and nutritional imbalance leading to health and academic performance decline. It is also expected to help promote the habit of eating breakfast and the culture of rice consumption.
The lunchbox, valued at 5000 won, is provided to students who pay 1000 won, with the remaining 4000 won covered by external support (2000 won) and Chosun University's own budget (2000 won). Emart24 provides bottled water free of charge.
On the first day, the 25th, the project will commence at 8:30 a.m. for one hour in front of the Consumer Cooperative store, with university officials including President Min Young-don and Student Council President Ha Hyun-il participating.
From then until June 19th, a total of 4,960 lunchboxes will be provided over 31 days, four times a week (Monday to Thursday). The lunchboxes can be purchased from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at eight Chosun University Consumer Cooperative convenience stores.
President Min Young-don said, “We prepared this with the hope that our students, who will lead the future of the region and the country beyond the university, will never skip breakfast. Through this event, I hope students eat a hearty breakfast, take care of their health, and focus steadily on their studies.”
