A building collapsed in the heart of New York's financial district, causing chaos as citizens evacuated.
US media outlets including NBC reported on the 18th (local time) that a parking garage building located in Manhattan's Financial District collapsed around 4:15 PM, resulting in one death and five injuries.
At around 4:15 PM local time on the 18th, a parking garage building in Manhattan, New York City, partially collapsed, causing vehicles on the second floor to fall onto other cars on the first floor. Fire authorities reported that one person died and five were injured in the collapse.

Of the five injured, four were transported to hospitals.
The media reported that part of the second floor of the parking garage suddenly collapsed, causing cars parked on the second floor to fall onto the cars on the first floor.
The collapsed parking garage building is known to be close to New York City Hall and about 0.8 km away from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
The New York Fire Department stated on social media that "firefighters are continuing operations at the collapsed building site, and due to the risk of further collapse, robot dogs and drones have been deployed to assist with search and rescue."
According to NBC, officials believe they have accounted for everyone in the four-story parking garage building but will continue search operations to confirm.
The collapse caused a commotion at Pace University near the parking garage building, where everyone evacuated.
Photos and videos from witnesses at the scene were posted on social media, with reactions such as "shocking" and "hope everyone is safe" following.
