On the 19th, Ulju-gun, Ulsan City, conducted the first rice planting of the year at a farm in Duseo-myeon to pray for a bountiful harvest.
The first rice planting event took place at the paddy field of Choi Hyun-sik (46) in Jeoneup-ri, Duseo-myeon, with County Governor Lee Soon-geol, executives and employees of Dubuk Nonghyup, and farmers attending. They demonstrated rice planting and encouraged the agricultural workers.
On this day, the early-maturing premium rice variety developed by Dubuk Nonghyup was used for planting.
The early-maturing variety allows for early planting and harvesting, which helps distribute farm labor and avoid natural disasters such as typhoons. Additionally, after early harvesting, late-season forage crops can be sown, increasing the utilization of farmland.
Farmer Choi Hyun-sik received rice seedlings from the Dubuk Nonghyup nursery and began planting on a 26,290㎡ paddy field, planning to harvest in September ahead of Chuseok.
The expected yield is approximately 13,408 kg (510 kg per 10a), which will be sold to consumers as new rice by Dubuk Nonghyup.
County Governor Lee Soon-geol said, “We sincerely planted each seedling, praying for a bountiful harvest in all farms of Ulju-gun without any natural disasters or pest damage this year. I hope that with stable rice prices this year, it will be a happy year for farmers.”
