Yoon Hee-geun, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, granted special promotions to police officers who arrested 58 methamphetamine distributors on the 19th.
On the same day, Commissioner Yoon visited the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency in Jangan-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi Province, and promoted Sergeant Lee Ok-ju, who arrested 58 members of a methamphetamine distribution crime group and detained 23 of them. Sergeant Oh Jae-min of the Pyeongtaek Police Station was also specially promoted after tracking down clues to drug crimes arising from a robbery and assault case, arresting 26 drug offenders and detaining 19.
Commissioner Yoon stated, "I urge continuous efforts to eradicate drug crimes, which are like terrorism destroying our community," adding, "This year, the number of special promotions for drug-related cases has increased to five, six times last year's number, and we will extensively reward outstanding achievements, including promoting entire investigation teams if warranted."
At the luncheon meeting with the investigative leadership of the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency held afterward, he emphasized, "We must carry a heavy sense of mission and responsibility to protect our neighbors and children’s future," and urged, "Please continue your unwavering efforts until drugs are eradicated from our society."
Meanwhile, immediately after his appointment, Commissioner Yoon declared the eradication of drug crimes as the second national priority and launched a large-scale special crackdown and arrests.
