Former Democratic Party lawmaker Geum Tae-seop and former People Power Party emergency committee chairman Kim Jong-in have announced plans to establish a 'third zone' party, with Kim stating, "If there is public awakening, there is a possibility of a new political force emerging."
On the 19th, during CBS's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show,' Kim responded to the host's question, "Isn't it necessary to have a presidential candidate-level star to establish a new party in the third zone?" by saying, "It's not about creating something centered around a person," emphasizing this point.
He added, "Without the awakening of the people, new politics cannot happen," explaining, "The public must recognize the current situation and realize that those in existing parties who only seek to protect their vested interests cannot solve the nation's pressing problems." This implies that for the establishment of a third zone party, the public must break away from the vested two-party system.
The general perception is that a 'third zone new party' requires a presidential candidate-level figure. The People’s Party, founded by Ahn Cheol-soo of the People Power Party, is a representative example. However, Kim expressed skepticism, saying, "Ahn Cheol-soo's new party cannot be considered successful," and "Although the People’s Party initially secured about 38 seats in the election, it failed to function afterward and eventually disappeared," he remarked.
Former lawmaker Geum proposed a goal of securing '30 seats in the metropolitan area' at a forum held at the National Assembly the previous day. Kim responded, "There are 121 seats in the metropolitan area, and if good candidates emerge, that could be possible," adding, "there is no need to think that it is impossible."
