On the 18th (local time), AP reported, "A total of 10,187 players applied to enter the US Open qualifiers, including four LIV Golf players: 2017 Masters champion Garcia, Matthew Wolff, Harold Varner III (all from the United States), and Mark Leishman (Australia)." The US Open grants entry to players ranked within the top 60 in the world as of May 22, but since these players are unlikely to break into the top 60 by then, they chose to compete in the qualifiers. This year’s US Open will begin on June 15.

It is not uncommon for well-known players to participate in the US Open qualifiers. This year, four former US Open champions?Jeff Ogilvy (Australia), Webb Simpson, Lucas Glover (both from the United States), and Graeme McDowell (Northern Ireland)?are also competing in the qualifiers. The US Open grants a 10-year exemption to champions, but their automatic entry periods have expired.

Players such as Bubba Watson, Charles Howell III (both from the United States), Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel (both from South Africa), Lee Westwood, and Ian Poulter (both from England) do not have US Open entry rights and are not participating in the qualifiers, making it unlikely to see them compete in this year’s US Open.

On the other hand, LIV Golf players Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed (all from the United States), and Cameron Smith (Australia) are eligible to participate in the US Open through winning the US Open within the past 10 years, winning other major championships within the past 5 years, or their world rankings.
