Gimhae City has begun repairing traffic safety facilities around the festival site ahead of the Gaya Cultural Festival, which is being held for the first time in four years.

Since January, 272 signs, 617 illegal crossing prevention devices, 685 guide posts, and 146 reflectors among damaged traffic safety facilities have been repaired.

Lee Dong-hee, head of the Traffic Innovation Division, said, “We are working hard to prevent traffic accidents by promptly repairing or replacing traffic facilities damaged by accidents or worn out due to aging.” He added, “We will do our best to ensure that visitors to the Gaya Cultural Festival, Gimhae’s representative festival, do not experience any inconvenience.”

The Gaya Cultural Festival was first held in 1962 to honor the founding spirit and achievements of King Gimsuro and to reexamine the brilliant Gaya culture.

It was held annually on the 15th day of the third lunar month, the day of King Gimsuro’s Chunhyang Ceremony, but was suspended for three years due to the impact of COVID-19.

This year, it will be held from May 4 to 7 under the theme “Matured Gaya, Shining Gimhae.”

The city plans to welcome tourists with various programs including exhibitions, experiences, performances, and traditional events at Surungwon, Gaya Street, Daeseong-dong Ancient Tomb Museum, and Gimhae Stadium.
