Senior Officials Strengthen Commitment to Integrity... Reflecting on Abuse of Power and Human Rights in the Workplace
Building Empathy through Watching the Film ‘Next Sohee’, Expecting Establishment of a Culture of Mutual Respect
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held the ‘2023 Integrity and Human Rights Film Festival’ to prevent abuse of power and sexual misconduct in the workplace and to foster a culture of mutual respect within the organization.
The district has not been content with achieving 2nd place in the comprehensive integrity ranking but has been continuously striving to establish a culture of integrity in public service. In particular, it has been integrating ‘communication’ and ‘culture’ into integrity education, which can otherwise be rigid and dull, drawing much interest and positive response from employees.
As part of these efforts, the film festival was held. On the 17th and 18th, about 250 employees gathered to reflect once again on the meaning of integrity in a meaningful session.
Before watching the film, the head of the Audit Office and a new employee read the ‘Self-Resolution to Eradicate Abuse of Power and Sexual Misconduct,’ demonstrating a firm commitment to anti-corruption. They pledged to take the lead in eradicating organizational corruption and creating a trustworthy public service society, showing exemplary behavior in practicing integrity.
Following this, during the ‘Anti-Corruption Education’ session, a professional lecturer from the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission gave a lecture on the theme of ‘Abuse of Power and Respect for Human Rights in the Workplace.’ The lecture raised employees’ awareness by explaining the definition, cases, and coping methods related to workplace harassment.
Finally, the film ‘Next Sohee’ was screened. Based on a true story, the film depicts a high school girl who goes to a call center for field training and suffers unfair treatment at the company, ultimately leading to her death. Although the film deals with a heavy subject, it delivered implications about mutual consideration, respect, and proper organizational culture, moving the hearts of the employees.
Employees who attended the event shared their impressions, saying, “I was able to deeply understand integrity and human rights,” “My attitude toward seniors and colleagues has changed,” and “There were many relatable parts in the film, and it was a valuable time for self-reflection.”
Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, “A healthy organizational culture requires the efforts of all employees, so I hope this film festival becomes an opportunity for mutual respect and consideration,” adding, “We will always lead district administration correctly and transparently, emphasizing fairness, communication, and kindness, which are the three major policy pillars of Gwangjin-gu.”
Going forward, the district plans to promote various initiatives such as ▲Integrity broadcasts with the mayor and senior officials ▲Self-diagnosis of integrity ▲Online Integrity Golden Bell ▲Simulated training for reporting corrupt acts ▲Operation of Integrity Communication Day to establish a corruption-free and healthy organizational culture.
