The Mansu Sewage Treatment Facility in Seochang-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon, will be expanded from a daily sewage treatment capacity of 70,000 tons to 105,000 tons on the 1st.
Incheon City announced that the expansion construction of the Mansu Sewage Treatment Plant, which is being promoted as a private investment project, began on the 18th.
The expansion area is 42,000㎡ and is scheduled to be completed in October 2025. Mansu Biotech Co., Ltd., the project operator, will hold the facility operation rights for 20 years.
Once the expansion construction is completed, the daily sewage treatment capacity of the Mansu Sewage Treatment Facility will increase from the existing 70,000 tons to about 105,000 tons, enabling it to handle the additional sewage inflow due to population growth in the jurisdiction areas such as Nonhyeon and Seochang districts.
Additionally, a sewage reuse treatment facility will be newly established, making it possible to produce 50,000 tons of reused water per day. The reused water will be supplied as river maintenance water to streams such as Jangsuchun and Seunggicheon, preserving the surrounding river environment.
The sewage treatment facility, which will be built on the 42,000㎡ expansion area, is planned to be completely underground, and an area equivalent to four soccer fields on the upper space will be developed into citizen convenience facilities such as a grass yard and walking paths.
Meanwhile, the project site at 500-161 Seochang-dong, Namdong-gu, is a development-restricted zone, and obtaining the 'Metropolitan Area Development Restriction Zone Management Plan Change Approval' from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport before the project implementation was a key issue.
The city received notification of the management plan change approval last month through close cooperation with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Environment, and the Korea Environment Corporation.
Afterward, following public notice and inspection by residents and consultations with related organizations, the city announced the 'Approval of the Private Investment Project Implementation Plan for the Expansion of Mansu Public Sewage Treatment Facility' and commenced the project.
