Gwangju Metropolitan City Buk-gu announced on the 19th that starting from the 21st, the ‘2023 Buk-gu Art Bus,’ which allows passengers to tour major local tourist attractions by bus every Friday, will begin operation.
The Art Bus, which first started operating last year, toured tourist sites where visitors could experience Gwangju’s three cultural heritages: Uihyang (義鄕, the land of righteousness), Yehyang (藝鄕, the land of art), and Mihyang (味鄕, the land of taste), receiving great responses from participating tourists and residents.
This year, with international art events such as the Gwangju Biennale and Gwangju Design Biennale taking place locally, Buk-gu has newly organized the Art Bus tour course by linking these events with representative tourist sites of Gwangju’s three cultural heritages.
The tour departs from Songjeong Station at 10 a.m. on the day, where participants can experience the taste of the southern region by making food such as rice balls at the Namdo Local Food Museum, and then participate in a visit to the National May 18th Democratic Cemetery to experience the spirit of Gwangju.
Next, participants will appreciate international contemporary art at the Gwangju Biennale Pavilion Exhibition Hall and return to Songjeong Station at 5 p.m. to conclude the schedule.
The Art Bus will operate until June 23 in the first half of the year and from September 8 to October 20 in the second half, with a participation limit of 20 people per session.
Those wishing to participate can make a reservation in advance on the Gwangju Tourism Association website, and the boarding fee is 1,000 KRW per person.
Moon In, the head of Buk-gu Office, said, “We hope the Buk-gu Art Bus will widely promote major local tourist attractions and become another source of enjoyment for tourists visiting Gwangju for the Gwangju Biennale and the May events,” adding, “We will continue to discover and promote unique tourism content exclusive to Buk-gu.”
