A man who wandered around a one-room apartment area and peered into other people's homes through windows was caught by the police.
According to the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency on the 18th, a man identified as A, who roamed a densely populated one-room apartment area in Daejeon, opened unlocked first-floor windows by hand and looked inside, was arrested on charges of habitual trespassing.
In a video recently released by the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency titled "Creepy Warning... Is Your Home Safe?", A was seen entering a narrow gap between a building and a fence at a villa in Seo-gu, Daejeon, late at night on January 31.
A put his hand through the iron bars in front of a first-floor window to open it, then pressed his head close to the bars and stared intently inside the house for a long time.
After similar reports from residents such as "I was home alone and the window was open" continued, the police announced the suspect's photo to the local police station based on CCTV footage and launched an investigation.
Police officer Yoon Tae-jin of Dunsan Police Station, who apprehended A, said, “On the day of the arrest, we responded to a report of a ‘suspicious person,’ and while on the way, I happened to see a pedestrian whose appearance closely matched the suspect I remembered, so I questioned him. At first, he denied it, but when I questioned him about the dust on his shoulder, he admitted to the crime and was arrested.”
According to the police investigation, A was found to have only peeped inside without entering the building. He was arrested on charges of habitual trespassing, and a detailed investigation is underway.
Among netizens who saw the video, reactions included, "Would anyone live on the first floor alone if they were scared?" and "He should be severely punished to prevent reoffending."
