Directly Taking on the Role of 'Hosting Guests'

Jo Gyu-il, mayor of Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, visited the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee and the National Assembly on the 17th to officially invite officials from the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee and members of the National Assembly to the opening ceremony of the ‘2023 Jinju Asia Weightlifting Championships’ to be held on May 4.


During his visit to the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, Mayor Jo met with Kim Jong-su, Deputy Secretary General of the Committee, and explained that the final entry submission for the Asia Weightlifting Championships included 610 athletes and officials from 36 countries, making it the largest tournament in history.

He also emphasized that the best environment is being created across all areas including transportation, accommodation, food, medical care, and safety management so that participating athletes can focus on the competition without inconvenience, and requested the Committee’s cooperation for a successful event.


Following this, Mayor Jo visited the National Assembly and officially invited Hong Ik-pyo, chairman of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee, Lee Yong-ho, the ruling party’s secretary, and members of the National Assembly from Gyeongnam to the opening ceremony of the ‘2023 Jinju Asia Weightlifting Championships.’


At the meeting with Chairman Hong Ik-pyo, he said, “We are doing our best to ensure a safe and successful event so that athletes can perform at their best in a tournament of the largest scale ever held,” and added, “We ask for the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee’s great interest and cooperation.”


In response, Chairman Hong said, “I sincerely congratulate Jinju on hosting the largest Asia Weightlifting Championships in history, and the National Assembly will actively cooperate to ensure the success of the event.”


The ‘2023 Jinju Asia Weightlifting Championships,’ held at the largest scale in the tournament’s history, will take place from May 3 to 13 at the Jinju Indoor Gymnasium. On the 4th, the opening ceremony will be held along with various cultural performances, and the main competition will proceed from the 5th to the 13th.
