Kim Hyun-ki, Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, Visits the National April 19th Democratic Cemetery on the 17th with 13 Council Members Including Vice Chairmen Nam Chang-jin and Woo Hyung-chan
Kim Hyun-ki, Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, paid respects at the National April 19th Democratic Cemetery on the 17th, ahead of the 63rd anniversary of the April 19th Revolution, marking the first such commemoration since the opening of the 11th Council.
Attending the visit were Vice Chairmen Nam Chang-jin and Woo Hyung-chan, Lee Jong-hwan, Chair of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee, Lee Sook-ja, Chair of the Planning and Economy Committee, along with council members Hong Guk-pyo, Lee Eun-rim, Shin Dong-won, Yoon Ki-seop, Lee Kyung-sook, Shim Mi-kyung, Lee Jong-tae, Nam Gung-yeok, and Shin Bok-ja, totaling 13 participants.
Chairman Kim wrote in the guestbook, “We will carry on the April 19th democratic ideals and spirit that resisted injustice.”
Last November, Chairman Kim met with the April 19th Revolution Contributors Association, the April 19th Democratic Revolution Association, and the Families of April 19th Revolution Victims Association, pledging that the Seoul Metropolitan Council will continue to show unwavering interest and support for commemorative projects to ensure the April 19th Revolution is remembered by future generations.
The April 19th Revolution, marking its 63rd anniversary this year, was a civic democratic movement led by students and citizens on April 19, 1960. The Constitution also explicitly states that the Korean people, with a long history and tradition, inherit the democratic ideals of April 19th that resisted injustice.
