The 27th Gijang Anchovy Festival, a representative seafood festival in Gijang, Busan, will be held from the 21st to the 23rd at Daebyeon Port in Gijang-eup.
Marking its 27th year, the Gijang Anchovy Festival, which began in 1997 as the nation’s first seafood food festival, has grown into a nationwide festival representing Gijang.
This year’s festival is composed of various programs designed to let visitors simultaneously experience the vitality of anchovies in spring and the freshness of the sea.
The three-day festival will kick off on the 21st with a street parade and performances by singers, followed by events such as ▲marine waterboard performances ▲seasonal Gijang seaweed harvesting experience ▲barehanded live fish catching ▲anchovy song contest, and more.
In particular, the most popular event, the free tasting of raw anchovies, will be available throughout all three days.
County Governor Jeong Jong-bok said, “Every year, many people remember and visit the Gijang Anchovy Festival,” adding, “To show our gratitude to the many visitors to Gijang, the Gijang Anchovy Festival Promotion Committee has prepared a more substantial event than ever before.”
A Gijang County official stated, “Due to the expected heavy crowds causing traffic congestion during the festival, we kindly ask visitors to use public transportation such as the Donghae Nambu Line,” adding, “Shuttle buses will also operate from Osiria Station on the Donghae Line to Daebyeon Port on Saturday and Sunday.”
