Hong Taeyong, Mayor of Gimhae City, Gyeongnam, announced the launch of the 2023 1st Gimhae City Policy Proposal Contest, stating, "Only attractive cities can survive as sustainable cities in the midst of the era of regional extinction."
According to the city, this contest will be held under the theme "Planning the Unique Stories of Gimhae!"
The city explained that with the recent growing interest in local branding, the contest focuses on discovering what makes Gimhae unique and what its distinctive charms are.
Local branding refers to the process and outcome of solving regional issues and creating new value based on the area's unique methods, thereby enhancing the region's attractiveness.

The city plans to reflect citizens' ideas that will add Gimhae's unique color by utilizing "people," the core of urban vitality, and "resources," the source of urban competitiveness.
Policy proposals are being accepted in the following areas: ▲Living-oriented fields to improve citizens' quality of life ▲Regional economic revitalization and strengthening regional competitiveness ▲Welfare, environment, and safety fields for creating a city where people want to live lifelong ▲Tourism and culture fields for making Gimhae a city people want to visit again.
The contest period is from the 17th of this month to May 31st, and anyone aspiring to be a local creator can submit proposals through the city’s website, the National Petition System (Gukmin Sinmungo), and other platforms.
After preliminary review by related departments and the Proposal Working Committee, excellent proposals will be selected through the final evaluation by the Proposal Review Committee.
Prizes will be awarded as follows: ▲Gold Prize 1,000,000 KRW ▲Silver Prize 500,000 KRW ▲Bronze Prize 300,000 KRW ▲Encouragement Prize 200,000 KRW ▲Effort Prize 100,000 KRW. The results will be announced on the city’s website at the end of July.
