The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency will operate a focused intelligence collection period on youth drug-related crimes from the 17th until the end of May.
The police plan to collect intelligence primarily through School Police Officers (SPOs). If drug-related matters are recognized during school violence prevention education or while managing at-risk youth, they will be reported immediately.
Additionally, drug-related reports can be submitted through School Bell, a KakaoTalk channel for reporting school violence cases.
The police plan to initiate investigations if the reports are confirmed as crimes. If similar harm is anticipated, School Bell notifications will be sent to 1,407 schools and 830,000 parents within Seoul.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency stated that police officers who submit meaningful intelligence will be recommended for special promotion related to drug cases, and citizens who report will be awarded a letter of appreciation signed by the Chief of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
Kim Kwang-ho, Chief of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, said, "Recently, drug crimes have targeted youth and have been used as couriers. Since this is a realistic problem threatening our children, the special attention of citizens is necessary."
