The Gwangyang City Council of Jeollanam-do (Chairman Seo Young-bae) held a rally on the 17th at the Container Wharf Intersection, urging the establishment of a regional win-win cooperation plan with POSCO.
About 20 people, including Chairman Seo Young-bae, the majority of city council members, and civic groups, participated in the event.
The city council members held banners with messages such as "POSCO should ▲immediately establish a win-win cooperation plan ▲reconsider the unilateral decision to establish a maintenance subsidiary, and POSCO Holdings should ▲actively invest in future new industries in Gwangyang," urging POSCO, which remains silent, to promptly respond to the citizens' demands.
Chairman Seo Young-bae stated, "The city council will continue the protest until POSCO comes up with effective measures," and added, "The city council will actively strive to ensure that POSCO is loved by the citizens of Gwangyang, fulfills its responsibilities as a corporate citizen, and achieves mutual development with the region."
Meanwhile, since holding a press conference on the 12th, the city council has been conducting a one-person relay protest at the Gwangyang Steelworks headquarters to ensure that the demands stated in the recently announced statements and position papers are realized.
