Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do achieved excellent results with all five young farmers who applied for the 2023 Young Farmers Competitiveness Enhancement Project, organized by the Jeollanam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services, being selected.
The Young Farmers Competitiveness Enhancement Project is a public contest aimed at establishing successful models for young farmers in response to the aging rural population, promoting early settlement in farming, and encouraging the influx of young people into rural areas.
Among a total of 37 selected individuals from 18 cities and counties in Jeollanam-do, Haenam-gun attracted attention by having five young farmers selected in large numbers.
In Haenam-gun, young farmers Park Sin-yeol (pickled cabbage), Kang Min-gu (rice bran), Kim Na-eun (apple watermelon), Lee Hyun-do (strawberry), and Yong So-jin (Gombobae cabbage) plan to develop new products using distinctive crops, commercialize processed goods, and produce prototypes.
The project budget is 50 million KRW per site, and the selected business items will be developed into high value-added business products and fostered as excellent models of youth startup farming.
A county official stated, “Through this contest project, the agricultural science and technology capabilities of young farmers will improve, enabling them to generate farm income and strengthen agricultural competitiveness. We will do our best to nurture Haenam-gun’s young farmers to become key talents.”
