Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) announced on the 17th that it will conduct the "2023 Intensive Safety Inspection for the Great Safety Transformation of Korea" to identify and improve defects and risk factors in various facilities within the region in advance to prevent safety accidents.

Seo-gu selected a total of 126 target facilities through resident surveys, resident application systems, and meetings of the Seo-gu Safety Management Advisory Group. Starting with the initial briefing session chaired by the Deputy Mayor on the same day, joint inspections involving related public officials and private experts will be conducted until June 16.

This inspection will cover facility maintenance, disaster preparedness, and safety management status.

For the first time this year, Seo-gu will operate the Mayor’s direct "Safety Patrol Team," composed of public officials, the Safety Management Advisory Group, and the Korea Land Safety Management Institute, to conduct special inspections on nine facilities including those with civil complaints, hazardous facilities, and construction sites.

Additionally, to ensure accurate inspections, scientific equipment such as drones and thermal imaging cameras will be used to inspect risk factors like ground subsidence, falling rocks, and collapses at one energy facility and four landslide-prone facilities where visual inspections are difficult.

Based on the inspection results, Seo-gu will immediately correct minor issues, and if serious defects or urgent risk factors are found, necessary measures such as usage restrictions and evacuation orders will be implemented. The results of the inspections and follow-up actions will be recorded using the intensive safety inspection system.

A Seo-gu official stated, "Since safety management of facilities is equally important, we will effectively carry out the intensive safety inspections and secure residents’ safety through thorough follow-up measures."
