The Chungnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 17th that on the 14th, from 1 PM to 3 PM, they conducted a simultaneous crackdown on drunk driving at 25 locations including school zones within their jurisdiction, apprehending 10 offenders.

Among the apprehended drunk drivers, two had blood alcohol levels warranting license cancellation, while the other eight had levels resulting in license suspension.

However, these drunk drivers were caught on regular roads, not within school zones.

The police plan to continue cracking down on daytime drunk driving, considering the increasing number of offenders caught during daytime hours.

According to statistics, from January 1 to April 13 this year, a total of 178 drunk driving accidents occurred, with 46 of them happening during daytime hours. Compared to the same period last year, total drunk driving accidents decreased by 40 cases (from 218), while daytime drunk driving accidents increased by 10 cases (from 36).

A Chungnam police official stated, “Considering that 10 people were caught during a two-hour daytime crackdown on the 14th, it appears that many drivers still engage in drunk driving during the day. To prevent accidents caused by daytime drunk driving, the Chungnam police will conduct joint special crackdowns with related agencies from the 17th of this month until the 31st of next month.”
