Yoon Soon-min, CEO of Biepa, left a large corporation to start her own business. Utilizing 3D models, she undertook consignment production for designer brands and high-end clothing brands for export. She produces excellent products recognized overseas in Europe, Japan, and the United States. She has over 100 clients.
Biepa was selected as the ‘Small Business of the Month’ in the small-scale manufacturer category for the first quarter of this year on the 14th. This system, introduced last year by the Small Enterprise and Market Service, aims to discover and reward small business owners who actively strive for management innovation, service improvement, and technology and research development, thereby boosting their motivation and promoting healthy development of small businesses.
About 40 companies applied for the Small Business of the Month. After external evaluation, two small business owners, three small-scale manufacturers, and one traditional market merchant were finally selected. This recruitment added group recommendations and recommendations by Small Enterprise and Market Service project managers alongside the existing individual application method. The number of required application documents was reduced from nine to three.
In the small business owner category, Geumseong Restaurant (Wonju, Gangwon Province) and Geumgang Distribution (Geumsan, Chungnam Province) were selected. Jung Eun-joo, CEO of Geumseong Restaurant, was recognized for her efforts to expand sales channels through meal kits and smart stores based on her steamed short rib recipe. Kim Myung-sook, CEO of Geumgang Distribution, was acknowledged for contributing to regional development through new sales channels such as weekend markets and online distribution, as well as social contributions related to youth entrepreneurship.
In the small-scale manufacturer category, Biepa was selected along with Hoegok Brewery (Andong, Gyeongbuk Province) and Site Glass (Wonju, Gangwon Province). Kwon Yong-bok, CEO of Hoegok Brewery, which has inherited the brewery business for 120 years over four generations, is an excellent company exporting from supplying Blue House banquet wine to the United Arab Emirates. Ma Jun-oh, CEO of Site Glass, developed a tool that is seven times faster than existing hand tools, increasing overseas export performance by 5.5 times in just one year. Kim Doo-yong, CEO of Nakwon Rice Cake Mill (Michuhol, Incheon), operating in traditional markets for two generations, was selected in the traditional market merchant category for continuously growing through expanding sales channels such as online and Incheon Airport.
Park Sung-hyo, Director of the Small Enterprise and Market Service, said, “Those selected today serve as role models for other small business owners through their relentless management innovation and service improvement,” and added, “The Service will actively support them so that they can advance to become entrepreneur-type small business owners representing our country.”
