The People Power Party has decided to investigate the allegations of 'money envelopes at the Democratic Party leadership election' at the National Assembly level.
Yoo Sang-beom, the senior spokesperson for the People Power Party, told reporters after a closed-door Supreme Council meeting on the 17th, "As the 'Money Envelope Party' incident escalates, we demanded the Democratic Party hold an urgent Judiciary Committee inquiry during the closed meeting, and we plan to conduct an urgent inquiry targeting the Minister of Justice."

Earlier, at the Supreme Council meeting, Representative Kim Ki-hyun said, "The Democratic Party’s DNA of throwing money to buy votes regardless of the state of national finances during elections has operated even more meticulously and strategically within its internal elections targeting its own organization. It is no exaggeration to call it the 'Money Envelope Party.'"
Regarding the Democratic Party’s plan for an internal investigation, Representative Kim stated, "The Democratic Party has fiercely defended Representative Roh Woong-rae and Leader Lee Jae-myung to the extent of abusing parliamentary privileges, and has nullified party rules that suspend party positions upon indictment to keep the accused as party leader. The Democratic Party also decided to maintain party positions for Representatives Ki Dong-min and Lee Soo-jin (proportional representation), who are suspected of illegal political fund receipt. It is a comedy and an attempt to cover up the truth for the Democratic Party to claim it will conduct its own investigation," he emphasized.
Representative Kim continued, "Although Leader Lee inherited the constituency of former Leader Song and obtained a parliamentary badge, he should immediately order Song’s return to the country and ensure that related Democratic Party lawmakers do not abuse parliamentary immunity and appear before investigative agencies. If not, it will result in acknowledging the rumors that money envelopes were exchanged even at the Democratic Party’s leadership election that selected Lee Jae-myung as the presidential candidate," he urged.
Floor Leader Yoon Jae-ok also said, "The Democratic Party claims to have recognized the seriousness of the situation and started an internal investigation. However, it is doubtful whether they can conduct a strict and objective investigation. At this point, the first thing the Democratic Party must do is, first, have former Leader Song immediately return and cooperate with the investigation to clarify the truth, and second, have everyone who gave or received money envelopes, including lawmakers, confess their guilt and voluntarily cooperate with the prosecution’s investigation," he stated.
