Everland Hosts Special Program for 'Lost Valley,' Visited by One in Three Koreans

Lost Valley 10th Anniversary Commemorative Experience Event Organized

Everland, operated by Samsung C&T Resort Division, announced on the 17th that it will hold special programs with visitors to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the eco-friendly safari 'Lost Valley.'

Lost Valley opened on April 20, 2013. It is one of the two main safari facilities representing Everland, along with Safari World, where carnivores live. Visitors can sit in exploration vehicles without glass windows and observe and interact closely with over 200 herbivorous animals of 24 species, including giraffes, elephants, and rhinoceroses, from various angles for about 10 minutes.

Since its opening, Lost Valley has had approximately 18 million visitors, meaning one out of every three Koreans has visited. Considering that Everland had about 61 million visitors during the same period, the usage rate reaches about 30%. Everland explains that Lost Valley has established itself as a must-experience course for visitors. The total distance traveled by Lost Valley’s circular vehicles is 470,000 km, which is equivalent to circling the Earth 12 times or traveling back and forth between Seoul and Busan more than 580 times.

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Lost Valley, Everland is introducing a new experiential learning program where visitors can observe animal ecology and learn the importance of animal and nature conservation. The 'Herbivore Academy,' where visitors can meet Lost Valley animals such as fennec foxes, chinchillas, and giraffes up close with expert keepers, will be held every weekday until November. The 'Early Bird Lost Valley Tour,' which allows visitors to observe the morning routines of herbivores such as mud-bathing rhinoceroses and swimming elephants, will be held until June 1.

Everland has renewed some ecological spaces and expanded the rhinoceros enclosure toward the visitor flow path to allow visitors to observe the movements of rhinoceroses more vividly up close. At the exploration vehicle disembarkation area, signage introducing the endangered rhinoceros and conveying species conservation messages has been installed to enhance educational effects for children. Additionally, a pair of single-humped camels (Dani and Bongi) have been added as new members.

Everland plans to hold various events and campaigns to thank visitors. From the 20th for one month, visitors who upload photos taken at the animal conservation photo zone at the Lost Valley disembarkation area to the zoo fan community Naver 'Zootopia' cafe will be entered into a draw to receive a giraffe doll. On the opening anniversary day, the 20th, the first 500 Lost Valley visitors will receive commemorative badges.

The 'Happy Stamp Rally' event, which encourages participation in a campaign to protect the Earth’s environment for animals to live happily, will also be held from the 20th to June 4. Visitors who receive a mission map, stamp the stations placed throughout the zoo, and upload a verification photo to the Zootopia cafe will be entered into a draw to win Everland gift cards for 20 people. Three visitors who write about their seven days of efforts to protect the Earth’s environment in daily life on the mission map will be given the opportunity to experience a special Safari World tour.

Jung Dong-hee, Everland Zoo Director (Zootopia Team Leader), said, "We thank the visitors who have loved Lost Valley for 10 years," and added, "We will strive to make Lost Valley a place that raises awareness of the importance of animal and nature conservation and spreads the value of species preservation."
