A completion ceremony was held for the first phase of the Pyongyang Hwaseong District residential housing project, a key initiative of North Korea.
On the 17th, the Korean Central News Agency reported, "Amid the people's joy celebrating the greatest and most glorious Day of the Sun, the completion ceremony for the first phase of 10,000 residential units in the Hwaseong District was grandly held on April 16."
According to the news agency, high-ranking officials including Premier Kim Deok-hoon of the Cabinet, Party Organization Secretary Jo Yong-won, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly Choe Ryong-hae, and Vice Chairman of the Party Central Military Commission Ri Pyong-chol attended the ceremony.
State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un personally attended the event and cut the completion tape together with Party and government officials. Chairman Kim stated, "Constructing 50,000 modern residential units in the capital of our country is a long-cherished project that our Party and state are promoting as a top priority to provide citizens with more stable and civilized living conditions."
The news agency further reported that he reiterated the Party's construction policy prioritizing the convenience of the people and the vision to magnificently develop Pyongyang into a world-class city.
North Korea announced at the 8th Party Congress in January 2021 a plan to build a total of 50,000 housing units in Pyongyang from 2021 to 2025, constructing 10,000 units annually. Following last year's Songhwa Street, the first phase of 10,000 units in the Hwaseong District has now been completed, and North Korea is currently constructing the second phase of 10,000 units in the Hwaseong District.
