On the 14th, the government appointed Lieutenant General Ko Hyun-seok, commander of the Army's 7th Corps, as the new Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army, and Lieutenant General Lee Sang-hak, superintendent of the Air Force Academy, as the new Deputy Chief of Staff of the Air Force, conducting a general officer personnel reshuffle for the first half of this year.


New Deputy Chief Ko Hyun-seok was commissioned as part of the 29th ROTC class and has served as commander of the 3rd Artillery Brigade and the 25th Division. New Deputy Chief Lee Sang-hak, commissioned from the 38th Air Force Academy class, has held positions such as director of the Crisis Management Center at the National Security Office and chief of the Air Force Headquarters Intelligence Operations Department.

The Ministry of National Defense plans to promote Army Major Generals Kim Ho-bok (3rd Military Academy, 27th class) and Kim Sung-min (Korea Military Academy, 48th class) to Lieutenant General and appoint them as corps commanders. Additionally, seven officers including Brigadier General Kang Hyun-woo will be promoted to Major General and assigned to key positions such as division commanders.


No promotions to General were made in this personnel reshuffle, and there were no promotions in the Navy or Air Force.


The Ministry of National Defense stated that the personnel selected in this reshuffle are outstanding individuals equipped with joint and combined operations and crisis management capabilities, who possess a strong sense of national duty, excellent character, and leadership that serves as a model for others. In particular, emphasis was placed on appointing talented personnel with expertise and qualities capable of contributing to a robust defense and scientific technology advancement through defense innovation.


A military official said, "We have selected military experts with the ability and experience to develop a combat-ready strong military capable of immediate response to enemy provocations," and emphasized, "Taking this personnel reshuffle as an opportunity, we will maintain an unwavering and firm military readiness posture despite continuous provocations and security threats, fulfilling our role and responsibility as the steadfast guardian of the Republic of Korea."
