Former People Power Party lawmaker Yoon Hee-sook criticized Party Leader Kim Ki-hyun and Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo together, saying they have not escaped the 'kkondae' image. Leader Kim and Mayor Hong recently engaged in a heated exchange over Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon's controversy at Sarang Jeil Church, and Kim eventually dismissed Hong from his position as the party's standing advisor.
On the 14th, former lawmaker Yoon appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' and expressed surprise at Kim's dismissal of Hong the day before, saying, "I was very surprised," and criticized, "The method of dismissal gives supporters a great sense of crisis. It feels like a 'kkondae party.'
She said, "Next year's general election will be decided by those in the middle who currently answer that they do not support any particular party," and pointed out, "The People Power Party must be most careful about the kkondae image for the 40% of the public who are in the middle."
However, she added, "Mayor Hong hung up the phone during an interview with CBS, and Leader Kim used dismissal from the standing committee because Hong made some sarcastic remarks but said things that were unpleasant to hear," and said, "The attitude of 'I cannot tolerate even a slight difference of opinion' really does not fit the times and gives a very disappointing, very kkondae style impression."
Earlier, on the 10th, Mayor Hong caused controversy by hanging up the phone during a radio phone interview when asked about Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon's potential candidacy in the general election, showing displeasure.
Former lawmaker Yoon repeatedly criticized, "Showing tolerance and acceptance even when there are problems, shedding the kkondae image is the best strategy for the general election, but whether it is the person who hangs up the phone or the person who cannot tolerate it, they are 'astonishing kkondae, too much kkondae.'"
When the host asked, "If things continue like this, do you think the next general election will also result in a situation where the ruling party has fewer seats than the opposition?" Yoon warned, "If things continue as they are, it will be a crushing defeat," and added, "It is not just a situation where the ruling party has fewer seats than the opposition."
She continued, "At a private meeting with candidate Yoon Seok-youl at the end of the year before last, I advised him that 'this is not an election aimed at the base voters,'" emphasizing, "To win the election, you have to target the moderate voters."
