On the 14th at noon, Hong Jun-pyo, the mayor of Daegu, visited Dongseong-ro, the downtown area of Daegu, to conduct an on-site inspection aimed at understanding the current state of the Dongseong-ro commercial district, which is increasingly declining due to a rise in vacant stores and the deterioration of surrounding anchor facilities.
Mayor Hong walked around 28 Art Square and the Dongseong-ro Tourist Information Center, inspecting stores and vacant shops, while listening to the difficulties faced by Dongseong-ro merchants who are struggling with business due to changes in the distribution structure centered on COVID-19 and online platforms, as well as the formation of new commercial districts.

At this occasion, Mayor Hong Jun-pyo said, “Daegu will thrive only if Dongseong-ro comes back to life,” adding, “We will remodel the entire Dongseong-ro into a youthful street where young people in Daegu can enjoy cultural performances and a new space abundant with food options.”
Lee Junho, president of the Dongseong-ro Merchants Association, stated, “For the Dongseong-ro commercial district to revive, young people must visit. To achieve this, we need to provide abundant entertainment, sights, and food.”
