A man in China won a '365-day paid leave' at a company event. The lucky winner will be able to receive his salary without going to work for an entire year.

According to online media World of Buzz on the 14th, a company in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, held its annual meeting on the 9th after not holding one for three years due to the impact of COVID-19.

The company planned a lottery to relieve employees' work stress. The lottery consisted of prizes and penalties, with winning employees receiving prizes such as 1-2 days of leave. Employees who drew penalties worked as waiters for the day.

In particular, the management hid a lottery ticket corresponding to one year of paid leave. One employee said, "The boss probably never imagined anyone winning this prize." However, a male employee in a managerial position at the company drew the ticket, surprising not only the staff but also the boss.

A video taken at the scene is spreading on the social networking service (SNS) Weibo. In the video, a man who appears to be the winner is sitting on a chair in the banquet hall with his wife and two young children, holding a sign that reads '365-day paid leave.' The hashtag related to this video has been viewed over 270 million times, showing high interest within China.

However, some argue that '365-day paid leave' is actually impossible. Netizens point out that if an employee is absent for more than a year, the company would need to hire a replacement to handle the workload, and the winner might miss out on salary raises, bonuses, and promotion opportunities.

Meanwhile, the company stated, "We will discuss with the winner whether to take the paid leave or convert it to cash."
