Jeju Maritime Police Station (Chief Lee Sang-in) will conduct an 'Intensive Safety Inspection of Marine Facilities' targeting 10 oil storage marine facilities within the jurisdiction of Jeju from the 17th to June 16th to prevent marine pollution accidents.

According to Jeju Maritime Police on the 14th, this inspection will focus on oil storage facilities with a capacity of 300㎘ or more, which have a high likelihood of large-scale marine pollution accidents. A joint inspection team will be formed with related organizations and experts to identify and inspect risk factors to prevent safety accidents.

The main inspection items will focus on safety issues such as establishing a marine pollution accident preparedness and response system, management of pollutant treatment and records, implementation status of marine pollution prevention education and training, inspection of emergency shut-off valves and pollution prevention equipment, inspection of facilities and safety equipment, and verification of improvements on issues pointed out in last year's inspection.

Over the past five years, Jeju Maritime Police has diagnosed and improved 162 safety issues through intensive safety inspections of marine facilities, leading efforts to prevent marine pollution.

A Jeju Maritime Police official said, "Since the leakage of pollutants such as oil from large-scale marine facilities can lead to major disasters, we will conduct thorough inspections to identify and resolve risk factors of large-scale oil storage facilities to prevent catastrophic large-scale pollution accidents."
