Kakao is stepping up to support the recovery efforts for the wildfire damage in the Gangneung area of Gangwon Province. Kim Beom-su, head of the Future Initiative Center, is also participating.

On the 14th, Kakao announced that it will donate 1 billion KRW to the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association to aid in the recovery from the wildfire damage and support for disaster victims in the Gangneung area of Gangwon Province. Kim Beom-su, head of the Future Initiative Center, will also contribute by donating personal stocks worth approximately 1 billion KRW.

Since the 11th, Kakao’s social contribution platform, ‘Kakao Together,’ has been running an emergency fundraising campaign in collaboration with the National Disaster Relief Association and the ChildFund Korea to support wildfire damage recovery. So far, more than 30,000 users have participated in the donations.

The combined donation of 2 billion KRW from Kakao and Kim Beom-su, along with the funds raised by Kakao Together users, will be delivered to the National Disaster Relief Association and other organizations. These funds will be used to provide essential supplies such as bottled water, food, blankets, and relief kits for the wildfire-affected disaster victims. Additionally, the funds will support housing and livelihood assistance for those who have lost their homes.

Users wishing to participate in the fundraising can donate directly through the fundraising page or individual fundraising boxes, or join by posting comments, cheering, and sharing. For every supportive comment posted on the fundraising page, Kakao will donate 1,000 KRW, and for each comment, cheer, or share on individual fundraising boxes, an additional 100 KRW will be donated.

Hong Eun-taek, CEO of Kakao, said, “Considering the suffering of many disaster victims, we decided to proceed with the fundraising campaign and for Kakao and Kim Beom-su, head of the Future Initiative Center, to make direct donations. We hope this will help the affected residents recover their daily lives quickly and support safe restoration efforts.”

Kakao continues to fulfill its social responsibilities and realize the value of sharing by providing various humanitarian supports during disaster situations. In 2020, Kakao donated about 5.4 billion KRW to overcome COVID-19 damages, about 1.4 billion KRW for heavy rain damage recovery, and in March 2022, raised and donated over 2.6 billion KRW for wildfire recovery in Gangwon Province. In February this year, Kakao also raised over 2.7 billion KRW to support earthquake recovery efforts in the Syria-Turkiye region.
