Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, held a public hearing on the 12th at the Upo Wetland Ecology Center conference room to expand the designation of the Upo Wetland Protected Area (Wetland Surrounding Management Area) this year.
The public hearing was held with the participation of about 60 people, including local residents, landowners, the Ministry of Environment, Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office, Gyeongsangnam-do Province, and related government agencies.
The Upo Wetland Protected Area planned for expansion will be set as a single planned area together with the existing protected area for comprehensive maintenance and management.
The expansion of the Upo Wetland Protected Area is expected to serve as a buffer zone against damage to Upo Wetland by designating the Sanbakbeol area, which was previously designated as an improvement area, the restored wetland of Sanbakbeol, and Dadeubeotbeol, totaling 265,269㎡, as surrounding management areas.
A county official stated, "We plan to collect opinions submitted at the public hearing and submit them to the Ministry of Environment in April."
