The Volunteer Crime Prevention Unit Act, which will be enforced on the 27th, provides a legal basis for administrative and financial support for the Volunteer Crime Prevention Units. Until now, these units have been conducting volunteer activities under poor conditions. The Act is expected to help enhance the activities of the Volunteer Crime Prevention Units and maintain public safety in local communities.

Currently, Jung-gu operates about 370 members across 16 units in 12 neighborhoods. With the enforcement of this law, the Volunteer Crime Prevention Unit organizations will be reorganized and must report to the chief of the jurisdictional police station. Accordingly, the Volunteer Crime Prevention Union plans to actively recruit new members who can participate in activities.

The recruitment target includes individuals who have a residence or business location within Jung-gu, Seoul, and they cannot belong to more than one Volunteer Crime Prevention Unit. Selected candidates will be issued appointment letters and identification cards in the name of the police chief, and a joint inauguration ceremony will be held.

Choi Eun-jeong, chief of the Jungbu Police Station, stated, "After the law is enforced, we will hold communication meetings with the officers of the Volunteer Crime Prevention Units to revitalize crime prevention activities," adding, "We will provide guidance and education on the new legislation and listen to any difficulties encountered during activities."
