According to the West Sea Coast Guard on the 14th, hearing- and speech-impaired individuals have difficulty recognizing accidents at sea and safety and promotional information. After consultations with the Sign Language Interpretation Center, appointment letters were awarded to three interpreters: Moon Hyun-ok, Choi Soo-kyung, and Park Mi.

The sign language interpreters appointed on this day will serve as communication channels with the public by providing sign language interpretation for important situations such as large-scale maritime accident press briefings, inserting sign language explanations in safety promotional videos, and supporting criminal and civil interpretation for the deaf.

Kim Hwan-gyeong, Head of Planning and Operations at the West Sea Coast Guard, said, "We hope this collaboration will help improve the human rights of information-disadvantaged and vulnerable groups even a little," and added, "We will continue to carry out proactive administration for the people."

Meanwhile, the Mokpo Sign Language Interpretation Center conducts various activities such as sign language interpretation education, social rehabilitation education, and awareness improvement projects to support the smooth social life of about 1,490 hearing- and speech-impaired residents near Mokpo.
