Comprehensive and Systematic Support Measures Prepared for Residents in Airport Noise-Affected Areas Starting Operation on the 17th

Establishment of an Independent Airport Noise Monitoring System to Accumulate Noise Data and Utilize It as a Basis for Practical Compensation

Discovery and Promotion of Various Resident Support Projects Including Detailed Hearing Tests, Customized Counseling and Psychological Services, and Scholarships

Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the 13th that it held an opening ceremony for the ‘Yangcheon-gu Airport Noise Countermeasure Comprehensive Support Center (73, Gomdallaero 13-gil, 2nd floor)’ in Sinwol-dong.

The Yangcheon-gu Airport Noise Countermeasure Comprehensive Support Center will officially begin operations on the 17th to establish a comprehensive and systematic support system for residents in airport noise-affected areas who suffer severe damage such as chronic noise exposure and property value decline due to frequent takeoffs and landings of aircraft at Gimpo Airport.

The center serves as an advanced base for discovering and promoting various resident support projects such as detailed hearing tests, counseling and psychological services, and scholarships, and is directly operated by the Airport Noise Countermeasure Team consisting of four public officials from the Green Environment Division of Yangcheon-gu Office.

In particular, the center plans to establish an independent airport noise monitoring system by installing automatic aircraft noise measurement equipment at three key locations within the area, and based on the accumulated aircraft noise data, it will prepare practical compensation measures.

Additionally, the center will be responsible for overall tasks related to airport noise, including preparing government system improvement proposals for noise reduction and consulting on noise damage complaints on-site. Above all, it is expected that the field workers directly working in the airport noise-affected areas will sincerely empathize with the hardships and pain of the residents and communicate effectively with them.

Furthermore, since last month, the district has been conducting detailed hearing tests for residents in airport noise-affected areas nationwide for the first time, and plans to provide customized counseling and psychological programs through agreements with professional counseling institutions.

Moreover, the district plans to accelerate the preparation of resident-experience-based support policies by hosting a nationwide local government forum on airport noise damage to improve awareness of airport noise damage and form a nationwide consensus through joint solidarity.

Last year, the district actively responded to the airport noise impact measurement survey, preventing the reduction of 3,000 households in the airport noise countermeasure area that was about to be excluded, and instead achieved an increase of about 450 households.

At the opening ceremony, Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, "We decided to open the Airport Noise Countermeasure Comprehensive Support Center with the idea that we should take care of our residents' damages ourselves, not just demand from the central government but start with what the district office can do," adding, "Based on this, the center will become a place that thoroughly investigates residents' damages and creates countermeasures."
