Canada is reportedly pushing for an agreement to share information with Korea.
According to a Canadian government source cited by major foreign media on the 13th, Melanie Joly, Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs, is expected to officially visit Seoul this week and announce plans to begin negotiations for the agreement.
The source emphasized, "Given the current challenges facing global security and the international order, such cooperation will be even more important."
Foreign media reported that the draft agreement includes information sharing, expanded defense cooperation, and participation of Canadian companies in investments.
Canada also began discussions on an information-sharing agreement with Japan in October last year.
In particular, Canada is known to have expressed the position that cooperation with Korea and Japan should be strengthened to expand the 'Five Eyes' (FVEY) intelligence-sharing alliance among the five English-speaking countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, as of May last year.
Following this visit to Korea, Minister Joly is expected to attend the Group of Seven (G7) Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Japan from the 16th to the 18th to continue related discussions.
