Changwon Coast Guard to Continue Managing Oil Storage Facility Until Safety is Ensured

The Changwon Maritime Police Station in Gyeongnam will conduct an intensive safety inspection of maritime facilities from the 17th to June 16th.

According to Changwon Maritime Police, this inspection will target nine oil storage facilities within the jurisdiction with a capacity of 300㎘ or more, where the likelihood of a large-scale marine pollution accident is high.

The inspection will be carried out by a joint inspection team composed of related organizations such as the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office, local governments, and fire stations.

The inspection team plans to encourage workplaces to proactively establish preventive measures, foster a safety culture led by the workplaces themselves, and strengthen autonomous safety management.

They will also check whether issues pointed out in previous intensive safety inspections of maritime facilities are being properly managed.

For workplaces requiring improvements, continuous management and on-site inspections will be conducted until the improvements are completed.

A representative of Changwon Maritime Police stated, “Since accidents at maritime facilities can lead to large-scale disasters, we will strive to ensure that a safety culture led by the workplaces themselves is established through verification of self-inspection results and safety management status inspections.”
