Chungnam Province is focusing its efforts on attracting the Green Bio Venture Campus.
According to the province on the 13th, the Green Bio Venture Campus will be established as a specialized facility for venture development, providing research and production equipment and spaces specialized in green bio, as well as startup incubation programs.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs is promoting the establishment of Green Bio Venture Campuses nationwide by region, based on an analysis of regional green bio industry trends and visions.
The province aims to attract the Green Bio Venture Campus on a 12,697.5㎡ site within the 1.65 million㎡ Green Bio Cluster development area in Sapgyo-eup, Yesan-gun. This site was recently considered as a candidate for a national industrial complex but was excluded due to concerns about farmland encroachment.
The scale of Chungnam’s bio industry is relatively high compared to the national average (12.91% of production value, 11.78% of added value), with health functional foods accounting for about 50% of related industry items, the highest proportion.
Since 2017, production and added value have steadily increased. However, the province notes that the share compared to the national level has decreased, indicating the need for a bio convergence strategy considering the region’s high manufacturing industry ratio.
Accordingly, the province plans to apply for a natural product material concept advanced farm dedicated to medicinal herb production (production) and a public bio foundry (research and pilot production) around Yesan-gun and Naepo Station.
Meanwhile, the province is strengthening exchange and cooperation by signing business agreements with related local organizations to attract the Green Bio Venture Campus.
On the 13th, the province signed a business agreement with Yesan-gun, Chungnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services, and Chungnam Technopark for the “Attraction of the Green Bio Venture Campus.”
The participating organizations plan to build a cooperative system to attract the Green Bio Venture Campus to Chungnam, establish business plans for fostering the green bio industry, exchange human networks, explore industrial linkage measures, and jointly promote cooperative projects.
Previously, Jeonbuk succeeded in attracting the Green Bio Venture Campus in 2021, followed by Gangwon and Gyeongbuk last year.
