The name of a newly discovered flower species in Thailand was named after Lisa, a member of the K-pop group BLACKPINK, local media including the Bangkok Post reported on the 13th (local time).
According to the report, a research team from Chiang Mai University discovered a plant that blooms a new species of flower never before observed in the world.
The research team named the plant's scientific name by incorporating Lisa's real name, 'Lalisa,' to honor Lisa, a member of the world-renowned group BLACKPINK who is from Thailand.
The scientific name is 'Friesodielsia lalisae Damth, Baka & Chaowasku,' and it is called 'bunga lalisa (Lalisa flower)'.

There is a reason why this flower was named after Lisa. It is said that one of the researchers was such an ardent fan of Lisa that they were inspired by her to earn their degree.
This newly discovered plant of the Annonaceae family was collected in Narathiwat Province in southern Thailand. This plant, which emits a strong fragrance, is known to be endangered.
The research team has been conducting research to find and preserve rare and unknown plants with support from the Thailand Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Department.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK, who have become world stars, are also explosively popular in Thailand. Starting their Asia regional world tour in Bangkok last January, BLACKPINK will hold additional performances on the 27th and 28th of next month at the Rajamangala National Stadium, the largest venue in Bangkok.
