The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced on the 13th that it has agreed to hold the "12th Korea-Japan Chamber of Commerce Chairpersons' Meeting" with the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Busan on June 9.

Both chambers stated, "With the shuttle diplomacy between the Korean and Japanese heads of state resuming for the first time in 12 years this March, we must build future-oriented economic cooperation at the private sector level," introducing the meeting in this way.

The regular exchanges between the two chambers began in 1984 with the "Mission to Promote Imports to Korea" hosted and dispatched by the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Since then, it was reorganized into the Korea-Japan Chamber of Commerce Chairpersons' Meeting and has been held 11 times to date. However, after the meeting in Furano, Hokkaido, Japan in July 2017, it has not been held for six years.

Chairman Choi Tae-won of the Korea Chamber of Commerce made a surprise appearance at the working-level meeting on the 10th to support the hosting of this meeting.

An official from the chamber said, "This year, the chairpersons from the Seoul Chamber and the Tokyo Chamber will also participate, making it the largest meeting ever held," adding, "Topics will include joint responses to global supply chains, private exchanges such as youth employment, and new entrepreneurship." The official also said, "Since regional chambers from both countries will attend, cooperation measures to expand tourism exchanges will also be given significant attention."
