Chungnam Province recently announced on the 13th that it collected 54 million KRW in overdue taxes by seizing and recovering health insurance and national pension refund payments from high-amount local tax delinquents (corporate and individual business owners).
The refunds used for collecting the overdue taxes were identified from insurance premiums refunded due to overpayments during the payment process of health insurance and national pension premiums. This is a new tax collection method that had not been previously utilized.
The province plans to strengthen delinquent tax enforcement activities such as license plate confiscation, property seizure, and public auction, aiming to collect 14 billion KRW this year out of the 31.3 billion KRW in carried-over overdue taxes.
On the other hand, for livelihood-type delinquents struggling due to economic crises such as high inflation and high interest rates, the province emphasizes providing tax administration support such as deferral of delinquent tax enforcement, license plate confiscation deferral, and installment payments to help economic recovery and rehabilitation.
A provincial official stated, “We will continue to make efforts to discover new delinquent tax enforcement methods beyond the existing collection methods. In particular, we will strive to enable just tax administration through strong and thorough delinquent tax enforcement against high-amount local tax delinquents.”
