As online purchases of agricultural products increase, inspections for pesticide residues on these products will be strengthened. Non-compliant agricultural products will be blocked from distribution through measures such as shipment delays.
The National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service announced on the 13th that it will conduct safety inspections at the production stage for agricultural products traded online until November 30 of this year.
This inspection will target 1,200 cases, a 20% increase from last year's 1,000 cases, to strengthen safety management of agricultural products distributed through direct online transactions. More than 463 types of pesticide residues will be tested.
The inspection targets agricultural products sold directly online by farmers and producer organizations. In cooperation with local governments, the status of farmers engaged in e-commerce and telemarketing sales will be identified in advance, and pesticide residue inspections will be conducted 10 days before the harvest of the relevant agricultural products.
If pesticide residue limits are exceeded, measures such as shipment delays and disposal will be taken to prevent these products from entering the market. Additionally, local governments will be notified of non-compliance details including producer information to provide guidance and education on safe pesticide use.
Seo Hae-dong, Director of the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service, stated, "We will strengthen management by conducting pesticide residue inspections before harvest on agricultural products sold online to ensure safe products are distributed. We will closely manage the production stage so that consumers can confidently consume our agricultural products."
