Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) conducted a joint spring forest fire suppression drill on the 13th at Gwanaksan (around Gwanak-gu 2nd Citizen Sports Complex) together with Gwanak Fire Station (Chief Lee Wonseok).


This drill, led by Gwanak Fire Station, focused on strengthening on-site response capabilities to suppress the nationwide surge in forest fires during spring. The training included drone and mountain rescue team forest fire search, hose deployment, comprehensive water spraying, and evacuation of hikers.

Gwanak-gu operates a Forest Fire Prevention Countermeasures Headquarters to support and monitor forest fire sites, operate specialized firefighting teams, and establish a rapid cooperation system with related agencies to ensure thorough forest fire prevention.


Going forward, the district plans to continue various forest fire prevention activities such as educating hikers, conducting campaigns, and distributing resident action guidelines.



Dongdaemun-gu Prevents Flood Damage with ‘Rainwater Drain Guardians’

Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pilhyung) announced the full-scale operation of the ‘Rainwater Drain Guardians’ to prevent flood damage during the summer rainy season.


The ‘Rainwater Drain Guardians’ of Dongdaemun-gu consist of 28 members divided into nine teams of three people each. From March to November, over eight months, they will clean approximately 20,000 rainwater drains throughout the district, playing a vital role in odor removal and flood prevention.

Especially in areas with heavy foot traffic such as traditional markets where large amounts of trash accumulate in rainwater drains, dedicated personnel are assigned for focused management. They also regularly inspect rainwater drains in flood-vulnerable residential areas to proactively prevent flood damage caused by heavy rains during the rainy season.


A representative from Dongdaemun-gu’s Water Management Division stated, “We will thoroughly operate the ‘2023 Rainwater Drain Guardians’ to make Dongdaemun-gu a safe and pleasant place to live, free from odors and flood damage.”



Seongbuk Saemaeul Disinfection Volunteer Corps Launch Ceremony Held

Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seungro) launched the ‘2023 Saemaeul Leaders Disinfection Volunteer Corps’ and entered an intensive summer disinfection system on the morning of the 12th at Baram Madang in front of Seongbuk-gu Office to protect residents from mosquito-borne infectious diseases such as malaria and Zika virus, which increase sharply in summer.


About 200 people, including officials from the district office and health center, the president of the Saemaeul Seongbuk-gu branch, and Saemaeul disinfection volunteers, attended the launch ceremony to inspect disinfection equipment and conduct demonstration disinfection.

After the launch ceremony, Mayor Lee Seungro and the Saemaeul disinfection volunteers carried out river cleanup activities along Seongbukcheon, including moss removal and throwing EM (Effective Microorganisms) mud balls.


Mayor Lee Seungro expressed gratitude, saying, “I thank you once again for conducting this comprehensive disinfection every year to ease residents’ concerns.” He also urged the volunteers to always consider their own safety while working, even as they care for the health of the residents.


Lee Horin, president of the Saemaeul Leaders Seongbuk-gu Council, said, “The Saemaeul organization has autonomously formed the Saemaeul Disinfection Volunteer Corps every year and has been faithfully conducting disinfection activities whenever and wherever neighborhood residents call.” He added, “This year as well, with a sense of mission to protect residents’ health, we will actively work as guardians of Seongbuk-gu residents’ health.”
