Prosecutor's Office Requests Fair Trade Commission to Indict 8 Furniture Companies for Bid Rigging

The prosecution investigating bid-rigging suspicions among domestic furniture companies has requested the Fair Trade Commission to file a complaint.

According to the legal community on the 12th, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office exercised its authority to request the filing of complaints against eight furniture companies, including Hanssem, Enex, Nexis, and Uami, as well as about 10 executives and employees.

The prosecution has been investigating allegations that these companies engaged in large-scale collusion worth about 1.3 trillion won from 2015 in the process of selecting suppliers of 'special sales furniture' to be installed in built-in form in newly constructed apartments, violating the Fair Trade Act and the Framework Act on the Construction Industry.

Usually, investigations by the prosecution begin following complaints from the Fair Trade Commission, but in this case, the prosecution directly recognized the case and initiated the investigation first. The Fair Trade Act stipulates that the Prosecutor General may request the Fair Trade Commission to file a complaint.

The prosecution plans to complete the investigation after receiving the complaint from the Fair Trade Commission.
