The prosecution has demanded a 10-year prison sentence for a stepfather who was tried for sexually assaulting his 6-year-old stepdaughter for over three years.
Although the stepdaughter's biological mother expressed that she did not want punishment and intended to reunite with her "husband" after his release, the prosecution highlighted the risk of secondary harm and requested a heavy sentence, drawing attention to the trial.
On the morning of the 12th, the 11th Criminal Division of Daegu District Court (Chief Judge Lee Jong-gil) demanded a heavy sentence of 10 years in prison at the first trial of Mr. A (40), who was indicted for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
According to the prosecution, Mr. A was charged with repeatedly sexually assaulting and engaging in similar sexual acts with his stepdaughter over a long period starting in 2018, when she was six years old.
Currently, Mr. A has reached a settlement with the victims, including his stepdaughter and her biological mother. The victim's biological mother submitted a letter to the court expressing her wish not to pursue punishment.
The prosecution stated, "Although Mr. A largely admits to the crimes, he appears to be completely unaware of the risk of secondary harm, as he wishes to reunite with the victim's mother after his release," and requested a heavy sentence to emphasize the severity of the law and to prevent secondary damage.
The prosecution demanded a 10-year prison sentence and requested protective measures including electronic monitoring, mandatory attendance of educational programs, disclosure of personal information, and probation with restrictions on approaching the victim.
