Yoon Kyung-hee, Cheongsong County Governor, Conducts On-site Inspection of Fruit Farms to Prepare for Cold Damage

Yoon Kyung-hee, the governor of Cheongsong County, Gyeongbuk, recently visited farms and orchards in Andeok-myeon Mungori and Hyeonseo-myeon Baekjari to inspect the sites in preparation for cold damage to fruit trees as temperatures dropped below freezing.

From April 8 to 10, the minimum temperature fell below freezing, and with the earlier-than-usual blooming period compared to previous years, there are concerns about cold damage to fruit farms. Governor Yoon Kyung-hee, together with the county agricultural policy department, agricultural technology center, Nonghyup officials, and village chief council, visited fruit farms to listen to farmers' opinions and to devise measures to minimize cold damage.

Spring cold spells cause browning of flower buds during the blooming period, reducing fertilization rates and damaging fruit set, which can lead to decreased yield and marketability. Currently, most fruit farms in Cheongsong County are in the early blooming stage, and many cases of ovary browning within flower buds have been confirmed.

Governor Yoon Kyung-hee urged, “As abnormal temperatures cause increasing damage to farms every year, related departments should do their best to conduct joint inspections and prepare countermeasures to minimize cold damage,” adding, “We also plan to actively engage in guidance and publicity for disaster preparedness targeting farmers.”
