According to Mokpo Maritime Police on the 12th, the National Safety Transformation is a preventive activity aimed at creating a safe society by conducting safety inspections involving the government, public institutions, and the public during the focused period.

This year, Mokpo Maritime Police plans to inspect the safety management status of passenger and ferry boats together with private and public experts, including those from the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority.

The inspection targets this year include 8 passenger boats and 4 ferries over 5 tons within the jurisdiction of Mokpo Maritime Police Station, which are either over 20 years old or have a passenger capacity of 200 or more, classified as high-risk or core facilities, along with 15 corresponding piers.

Last year, Mokpo Maritime Police conducted joint safety inspections with 8 private and public experts targeting 12 passenger boats and 8 pier operators within the jurisdiction, and corrected 20 safety deficiencies pointed out due to insufficient safety equipment.

A Mokpo Maritime Police official stated, “Along with the successful hosting of the ‘National Sports Festival’ held in Mokpo this year, the maritime police will take the lead in providing a safer and cleaner sea for visitors to Mokpo,” adding, “We will conduct thorough inspections to ensure the safety of ferry and passenger boat facilities used by many people.”
