Gwangju Seo-gu Council Operates Children's Assembly Tour

The Seo-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City conducted a three-day children's council tour from the 10th to the 12th.

This was the first children's council tour held in over three years since the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Seo-gu Council on that day, the tour began in a small conference room on the first floor, introducing the council's work and the current status of the Seo-gu Council to about 80 seven-year-old kindergarten students from the district.

Next, the children went to the main conference hall on the second floor, where they received an explanation about the gavel and observed a demonstration on how to use it.

The gavel is a tool used by the chairperson to conduct meetings in the council. The children each held a gavel, experiencing the role of the chairperson and learning about democratic procedural processes.

The children completed a council OX quiz and shared their impressions of the experience, concluding the tour.

The children who participated in the tour said, "I was curious about what the council does, and seeing it in person was fascinating and fun," and "Holding the gavel and experiencing the role of the chairperson made me think that we might also work in the council in the future."

Chairperson Ko Gyeong-ae emphasized, "It is very meaningful to help children, who are the hope of all of us, directly experience democracy through the council tour and grow into proper members of society," adding, "Seo-gu Council will continue to operate such programs actively to support children in achieving their dreams and hopes."

In addition to the 'Children's Council Tour' conducted this time, Seo-gu Council plans to resume the 'Children's Mock Council' experience in the second half of this year to provide local children with more detailed opportunities to experience the decision-making process of local councils.
