Gyeongnam Governor Park Wansu: "Life and Safety Are the Highest Values to Protect"

"We ask businesspeople and merchants to pay special attention and effort so that sufficient safety equipment can be provided to create a workplace free of disasters."

Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, sent a letter to local companies and labor unions requesting cooperation for the prevention of industrial accidents.

In the letter, Governor Park emphasized, "Life and safety are the highest values we must protect."

He stated, "Although the Serious Accident Punishment Act has been in effect for over a year, 57 workers in the province alone did not return to their families last year," adding, "Industrial accidents come without warning."

"Safety is becoming an essential factor for enhancing corporate competitiveness and sustainable growth," he said, "Companies must fully equip safety facilities to create workplaces free of accidents, and workers must maintain awareness of safety and comply with safety rules."

He continued, "Employers should view safety management not as a simple cost but as an investment in the future, ensuring through pre-inspections and training that workers strictly follow safety rules," and "Workers should thoroughly prevent accidents to work safely and return home safely, and actively participate in safety culture policies."

Governor Park stated, "Gyeongnam Province has designated 2023 as the golden time for preventing serious accidents and the first year for reduction," adding, "Labor, management, government, and civil society will join forces to tighten the safety net and firmly root the safety culture, doing our best to create a Gyeongnam where both businesspeople and workers can feel secure."

In January, Gyeongnam Province held a safety and health leaders meeting chaired by the governor with participation from local business leaders and related organizations. The province plans to continue industrial accident prevention activities such as ▲ joint declaration ceremony for serious accident prevention by labor, management, government, and civil society ▲ Gyeongnam-type excellent company certification project for industrial accident prevention ▲ native language instructor training project for safety and health education of foreign workers.
