The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province has been selected as the host city for the '2025 Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Asia-Pacific Congress.' This marks the second time South Korea will host the event, following the 2002 conference held in Seoul.

On the 11th, Suwon announced on the 12th that it successfully secured the '2025 ITS Asia-Pacific Congress' after a final proposal presentation held at the Suzhou Convention Center in China, competing closely with Auckland, New Zealand. ITS refers to systems that apply advanced information and communication technologies to transportation modes and infrastructure to enhance safety and convenience. Representative examples of ITS include bus information systems and traffic information systems.

During the presentation, Suwon outlined the future ITS vision for large cities, including ▲MaaS (Mobility as a Service), ▲DRT (Demand Responsive Transport), and ▲UAM (Urban Air Mobility).

The city also explained the active support from private companies and the strong commitment from the government and local authorities to host the event.

In the vote conducted among 11 countries of the Asia-Pacific regional council following the presentation, Suwon secured the hosting rights by a margin of one vote over Auckland.

Since its inception in Japan in 1996, the ITS Asia-Pacific Congress has been an international conference where countries in the Asia-Pacific region exchange public-private ITS technologies and share market trends. The event includes high-level meetings, academic conferences, technology demonstrations, exhibitions, and business consultations.

The 2025 ITS Asia-Pacific Congress will be held from May 12 to 14. Over 2,500 participants from more than 20 countries and 50 organizations and companies will showcase cutting-edge ITS technologies.

A Suwon city official expressed expectations, stating, "Hosting the 2025 ITS Asia-Pacific Congress will be an opportunity for Suwon to establish itself as a leading ITS city and a hub for the MICE industry."
